What to Expect at your Visit

Once you arrive, you will be greeted by our stellar staff. We will then ask for your photo ID, and all insurance cards so that we can update it in your patient profile. After your cards are scanned in, you will be given a clipboard with a medical history form. Please ensure that you fill it out to completion and include all medications including over the counter.

  1. Once checked in, you will be greeted by Dr. Gilles and taken back to the exam room. Once in the exam room, Dr. Gilles will go over your medical history and ask about any visual concerns you may have.

  2. Dr. Gilles will perform a variety of diagnostic tests to determine best course of treatment whether it be prescribing glasses, or other medical treatments. Part of the diagnostic testing will require Dr. Gilles administering eye drops both to check the ocular pressure, and to dilate the eyes.

  3. Once fully dilated, Dr. Gilles will check the overall health of the eye using lights to examine the front and back of the eye.

  4. After the initial health findings are documented, Dr. Gilles will proceed to share their findings and discuss any questions you may have.

  5. Based on your visual needs, your prescription most likely will be updated at your exam. After meeting with Dr. Gilles, you will have an opportunity to shop our excellent frame selections and meet with our wonderful optician to craft a customized visual solution based on your prescription.

Due to the nature of the dilation drops, we fully recommend our patients bringing dark tinted sunglasses if possible and if uncomfortable with driving, a driver. Dilation usually lasts about 4-6 hours, but it depends on the patient's visual system.

ABOUT YOUR INSURANCE

There are two types of health insurance that will help pay for your eye care services and products and they fall into two categories such as vision and medical.

For Vision plans (VSP, NBN, Blue Cross, etc.) your routine vision wellness exam, eyeglasses and contact lenses are typically covered. Vision plans DO NOT cover medical care (the diagnosis, management and treatment of eye health problems) and often times are coordinated with your medical plan.

Medical insurance plans like Medicare, must be used for medical eye care. If you have both types of insurance plans, it might be necessary for us to bill some services to one plan and some to the other. We follow a procedure called "coordination of benefits" to do this properly and to minimize our patient's out of pocket expenses.

**Please note that for a medical eye exam, the refraction is NOT covered and is the patient's responsibility. The medical eye exam focuses on the evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of eye health.

You are responsible for the terms of your insurance contract, including deductibles, copays or non-covered services according to your insurance benefits.
